Research Interests

Crystal chemistry, crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry.

S elf assembled natural and synthetic materials have inspired us the most - particularly transition metal based oxides and biologically important inorganic solids such as calcium phosphates. Our research group has been engaged in developing ‘chimie douce’ techniques (e.g. hydrothermal, sol-gel, molten flux, metathesis) to isolate new hybrid solids with multidimensional structural features including nanomaterials. Majority of the synthesis are exploratory and hence growing single crystals under varying reaction condition makes it imperative for unambiguous a posteriori structure analysis. A major objective of the group is to establish reliable connections between molecular species present in the solution and supramolecular structures observed in the solid state in terms of the influence of nonbonding interactions.
