Abstract: Current projects in our group are concerned with development of glycomimetic inhibitors of carbohydrate binding proteins such as galectins, macrophage galactose C-type lectin, influenza virus hemagglutinin. All of these targets are relevant to development of new therapeutics & vaccines. We have been active in ligand design as well as in the synthesis of glycoclusters to improve potency and selectivity of inhibitors of carbohydrate binding proteins. We have also been interested in fundamental research in carbohydrate chemistry and have published research on factors influencing anomer preference as well as on the factors influencing anomerisation reactivity. Successes have included stereoselective synthesis of iminosugars, glycolipid synthesis, new protein-peptide inhibitors based on carbohydrates/macrocycles. We have investigated intramolecular Huisgen azide alkene cycloadditions for iminosugar synthesis. The lecture will contain examples of research from our group from the mentioned projects.
