Featured Research

Extremophiles are exotic microorganisms able to grow and thrive under extreme environmental conditions such as extreme temperature, pH, salt and solvents etc. Halophiles refer to the organisms having unusual life existence in saline/ hypersaline environments.

“Haloenzymes”, the proteins from such halophilic origin, are endowed with unique structural features and catalytic power to sustain the metabolic and physiological processes under high salt conditions. One such halophile Geomicrobium sp. EMB2 is isolated by us. Molecular characterization of its novel protease is presented here. J. Microbiol. Biotechnol., 2011, 21, 129–135.
